Background:

St Mary's Catholic Primary School, Crewe is a primary and nursery school for boys and girls. The age range of the pupils is three to 11. It was opened in 1868. The school maintains broad and balanced curriculum. It was the first Catholic school to be established in Halifax and is one of the oldest schools in the Diocese of Shrewsbury. The school occupies a large, spacious building and is set in extensive, pleasant grounds with grass and hard playground areas surrounded by shrubs and a good number of mature trees. The school curriculum covers the following subjects: mathematics, literacy, religious education, science, history, geography, art, physical education, design and technology, information and communication technology and music. It provides many valuable activities which take place outside the classroom, both during lunchtime and after-school including: art and craft, choir, cricket, dance, football, gymnastics, netball, pottery, ski-ing, swimming, guitar, korfball and technology. The school aims to provide a caring Christian community, an education, which develops, and supports the individual needs and talents of all the children and enables them to learn and live through faith and education.
