Background:

Founded in 1846. Situated in the midst of commercial Stockport on its main thoroughfare. No grounds other than tarmac playground. First school in the Stockport area to gain Investors in People status, were the first to be re-accredited, the only school in the borough to carry out English Speaking Board Assessments with all Key Stage 2 children and the only school to provide extended swimming provision. Introduced Italian at Key Stage 2 (funded by the Italian consulate) in the mid 1990s and took the school into a European Education funded Socrates ICT pilot in a drive to raise Information Technology across the school. Every classroom now equipped with PCs and a 'minimum competencies' approach to staff development which has included the need for staff to attain RSA 1 in CLAIT (IT skills). Now completing a 'state-of-the-art' IT suite. Winners of the Stockport Junior Road Safety Quiz for the third year. Each year a swimming team is entered in the English Schools' Swimming Association's Championships (small schools category). Strong links with local community, especially the Parish, local TEC and local businesses. Supports the St Ann's Hospice, Shrewsbury Diocesan Children's Society and the Holychildhood Appeal.
