Background:

The school was founded in 1913 as a convent school at Harrytown Hall, which had its origins in the 16th century. A purpose-built school has since replaced the hall, which is now privately occupied. The school's grounds include playing fields and woodland. A substantial building programme has provided 'excellent' new facilities for sport, music, business studies and food technology, a new library with integrated information technology provision has been created and the whole school has a high-speed fibre-optic LAN and upgraded science facilities. The school is over-subscribed, with 200 applications for 145 places, and The Roman Catholic diocesan school puts 'strong emphasis' on religious education, priority being given to Roman Catholic children from the seven associated parishes. More than seven in 10 pupils continue their education after 16. There is a 'thriving' school choir and band with musical evenings and annual stage productions. Extra-curricular sports are aimed at as many pupils as possible and currently include football, netball, hockey, basketball, fencing, athletics and trampolining. The school has a 'reputation for lively, joyful worship' and pupils have the opportunity to take part in days of reflection and residential retreats. Charity work is encouraged through the St Vincent de Paul Society and general activities. 'Partnership with parents in all aspects of school life is greatly valued'.
