Background:
Founded in 1533 to be a grammar school for the education of the poor of Bowdon on a site in Richmond Road; rebuilt in 1670, with further additions in 1806; replaced in 1969 by the existing purpose-built school on a green-field site in Grange Road, financed jointly by the local education authority and St Mary's Parish Church, Bowdon. Aim is "to provide the opportunity for all children to achieve their full potential in a caring and secure Christian atmosphere". Proud of achievmeent by pupils of all abilities; most transfer to local grammar schools. High priority given to sport, music and performance. Recent policies for developing thinking skills, for gifted and talneted pupils, and for developing learning environments. All classes are connected to a computer network, with tightly-controlled internet and email access; purpose-built ICT suite. French taught throughout the school. Before-school care, from 8am; after-school care, until 6.30pm. Over-subscribed, with two applications per place. Healthy Schools gold award. Investor in People status (2000).organised into fourteen classes (six infant, eight junior) according to age. The school provides a wide range of extra curricular sporting activities using school staff and outside agencies including Sale Sharks, Fitkids, Bowdon Cricket and Hockey Club, the British Judo Education, Manchester Football Activities, Timperley Lacrosse Club.
