Background:
Situated in the West Heath residential area of Congleton, the school was established in 1957 as a girls' grammar and became a co-educational comprehensive in 1979. The grounds contain a sports field, an all-weather pitch and tennis courts. The school buildings have been extended over the years, and the latest addition is an art block built in the 1990s. A recent study of 'value-added' examination performance suggested that the school was ranked 15th out of 100 schools in Northern England. The school itself states that it maintains 'consistently good' academic performance in all subjects, along with a 'rich' programme of extra-curricular activities. It sees its small size as being conducive to working 'closely' with parents and providing pupils with individual pastoral care and guidance. It also boasts a 'strong tradition of excellence in creative arts'.
