Background:

Founded in 1970, the school is housed in a single storey building of modern brick and timber design, situated in 'extremely pleasant' grounds. There is a self-contained reception classroom with its own practical work area, toilets and outdoor play area. Facilities include a large hall, separate craft building, hard surfaced outdoor playing area and large grassed area for games. Music tuition in cello, violin, brass and guitar is available for junior children and other extra-curricular activities include country dancing, football, cricket and netball. The school has enjoyed 'considerable sporting achievement with the eight-a-side cricket team winning Stockport's indoor kwik cricket competition in summer 2000. It has many links with the community, is twinned with an inner city school in Manchester and receives sponsorship from ICL and other local businesses. Tithe Barn holds many charity events, organised by pupils, and has a 'very supportive' parent-teacher association. It is also twinned with a school in a township in South Africa. 'We expect our children to achieve the highest possible academic standards according to their ability, to develop their sporting and artistic talents to the full and to become confident, tolerant and socially conscious'.
