Background:
Marlborough Primary School is situated in the outskirts of the town of Macclesfield, an old market town in the north of Cheshire. The school building was opened in 1967 (to a design known as a Scola MK1), which incorporated a large entrance hall housing a reference library and administrative offices, a spine corridor to seven classrooms, an assembly hall and kitchens. In 1993, the new purpose-built junior wing was constructed to provide eight classrooms, two activity areas, a new library, additional playgrounds and an activity hall for the infant department. At the same time, the opportunity was taken to completely rebuild the kitchens. The school aims to offer a broad based, well structured and rich curriculum, which is designed to help children learn with understanding and enjoyment. The school is also actively involved in numerous inter school activities. These include football, netball, cross-country, athletics, rugby sevens, choir, music, cricket, rounders, road safety and swimming. The aim is that all pupils in the junior department are given the opportunity to represent the school in one or more activities. Music tuition is also offered in the form of peripatetic lessons in the flute, clarinet, cornet, trumpet or guitar. The school has a flourishing parent-teacher association, which organises social, educational and fundraising activities to further enhance the life of the school and those who live and learn within the school. The school aims to provide an environment where everyone is valued, without prejudice, in order to develop positive attitudes and self-esteem.
