Background:
Originally opened as the Reddish Albert British School on Greg Street, South Reddish, the school changed its name in 1888. The current school was built in 1978 on the edge of the Tame Valley and is situated by a golf course in an area of mostly private housing. Many improvements have been made to the school's open plan design including the conversion of the interior courtyard, which is used for art and technology and as a central resources area. Children of different ages are given the opportunity to mix, through the various extra-curricular activities on offer. These include a brass band, choir and clubs for computers, chess, country dancing, football, netball and art, which are run by teachers, parents and classroom assistants. The school has won the Stockport north area mixed rounders shield and the small schools netball shield. Pupils have represented Stockport at netball at the Manchester Youth Games and in inter-town events for cross country. The 'active' parent-teacher association raises money each year for local charities. There are 'strong' community links and local groups are invited to share the annual community concert. 'There is a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the school, a busy purposeful approach to work and an open, friendly attitude from all teaching and non-teaching staff. The relationships between staff and children are positive and a genuine interest is shown in each child as an individual. The children are friendly happy and relaxed in the school situation'.
