Background:
The present school was built in 1962 and is traditional in design. It has four classrooms, one of which was added recently, a hall, school library and resources area. 'Extensive' grounds include a hard playing area, a netball court, and a playing field used for rounders, athletics, football and other games. The gardens include areas planted and cared for by the children themselves. A mini-woodland which has bark chipping paths and log seating forms part of the landscape and has been planned as an environmental learning resource. There is an infant creative activity and play area with purpose built wooden equipment. There is also a communal landscaped 'welcome' area to encourage parents and children to wait in safety inside the school grounds. The school has 'excellent' provision for sport and athletics in both formal curriculum and after school clubs. All children attend weekly swimming lessons. The school provides instrumental tuition and has a choir and band. 'Close' links with the community are encouraged and local events are supported as well as regional and global charities.
