Background:
Ludworth County Primary School was founded in 1908 and is situated in 'spacious' grounds in Marple Bridge, a village that expanded significantly in the 1960s and 1980s, on the south east edge of Stockport. The location is semi-rural and yet is surrounded by a mixture of new housing. Children come from a 'wide catchments area', some travelling up to 12 miles to attend. The school has 'grown steadily in numbers over the years' and is currently over-subscribed. Through a 'broad' curriculum, each child may attain a 'high standard in as many skills as possible'. The school has 'many' extra-curricular activities, particularly musical, including tuition in violin, brass and woodwind. Sports include lacrosse, fencing and swimming where the school has gained 'much success'. There is a 'close' partnership between home and school. Parents are 'actively' involved in many areas of school life including helping with reading and sporting activities, and an 'active' Parent-Teacher Association organises joint social and educational events. An annual charity is adopted by the children, parents and staff. 'The school aims at preparing the children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences which they will encounter during their lives. It offers equally to all children a secure, happy, stimulating school which is organised, disciplined and where respect is fostered onto another within the school, the community and beyond.
