Background:

Located in the village of Poynton, midway between the large conurbations of Stockport and Macclesfield; surrounded on all sides by green belt; built in response to rapid growth of the town in the 1960s and 1970s; extensive playing fields, environmental area, under-fives play area and quiet play area. Links with local community groups; active parent-teacher association. Annual project undertaken, usually with support from a local manufacturing company. Proud of reputation for performing arts'; has won and been a finalist in the BBC Carol competition on a few occasions; regularly performs contemporary dance pieces, as well as putting on shows and exhibitions. Pupils are taken on several residential visits each year to places of educational value. Sport is also strong; only state school to reach final of National Hardball Cricket Finals; Northwest Cross-country Champions for three successive years; links with Macclesfield Town FC; competitive girls' football team, tennis, lacross, hockey and rugby. Pupils are encouraged to raise money for local and national charities. After-school care, until 6pm.
