Background:
Springwood Primary School is a community school and was opened in September 1999 as a result of the amalgamation of Cherry Tree Infant and Junior Schools. The school is set in extensive grounds that include a large playing field, a wooden area, a wild area and a pond. The original school building was built to a Cheshire design in the 1960s and additional building was completed in August 2000. It consists of a good-sized hall with seven teaching areas and a nursery. The school boasts a new computer suite, which also houses the non-fiction library. The junior building has been extended and refurbished to accommodate all children in the primary phase from three to 11 years. There is a range of extra-curricular activities, sports fixtures and competitions taking places at various times throughout the school year. These activities include choir, recorders, netball, football, county dancing and computer club. The school aims to provide a learning environment that is stimulating, warm, friendly and encouraging.
