Background:
Situated in a residential area of North Cheshire, on the southern side of Warrington, the school is based on two campuses half a mile apart, following the amalgamation of two schools in 1987. Years 7 and 8 are housed in Appleton Hall, purpose-built during the 1960s and set in 'splendid' grounds. The upper school is located at Broomfields Road where, as well as a sixth-form centre, they boast a 'first-class' leisure centre which includes a swimming pool, squash courts, a 'large' sports hall, sauna, fitness training room and 'large' all-weather floodlit games area. A Lower School building programme has recently provided eight new classrooms for languages and humanities, plus some improvements to drama and music facilities. 'The care and nurture of the individual would be the school's hallmark. Perhaps because our buildings are adapted to educate those from the Warrington area with physical ability, the school has a very strong focus on maximising potential from all its pupils. We are greatly concerned to ensure that every scrap of academic potential is developed from all children, all the time'.
