Background:

Founded in 1910, the school is housed in a well-maintained 19th- and 20th-century main building in addition to two more modern buildings, one of which houses sixth form. A new library was opened by Prince Charles in 2003. Set in leafy suburbs 10 miles from Manchester city centre, grounds offer mature and well-kept gardens, tennis courts and two all-weather pitches for hockey and netball. More than 70 extra-curricular clubs, including language and ICT class for pupils, parents and community. Homework club and library open until 5pm daily. Numerous visits abroad to locations such as Iceland, Prague, St Petersburg, Brazil, Ecuador, Canada, China and South Africa. Two orchestras and two choirs; performances in Italy, Spain and Germany, as well as Windsor; next performance in Beijing, China.
