Background:
Opened in 1979, the school is on the edge of Macclesfield with easy access to Peak District, Chester and Manchester. It looks out over open farmland and is situated next to a leisure centre. The school is over-subscribed, with two applications per place, and up to 51% of applications are from 'out-of-area' pupils. A substantial building programme to meet growing demand has led to a new sixth-form centre and performance hall and 'excellent' facilities for information technology. The school has numerous industrial links and offers a full range of work-experience for students in Years 10 and 12. It won the 1990 Schools Curriculum Award and is one of only eight schools in the country to have received the Queen's Anniversary Award. Schools Curriculum Award (1990); Investor in People status (1995).
