Background:

Opened in 1949, this over-subscribed school occupies 'large and pleasant' premises in Heaton Chapel to the north of Stockport. Classrooms are 'light and spacious' with views over the 'wide expanse' of grassland around the school buildings, which include playing fields and a hard surface play area. There is a school kitchen, library, television area and a large school hall, used for physical activities, assemblies and school productions. Many children are given instrumental tuition both in lessons and as an extra curricular activity and there have been a number of performances to pupils, parents, guests and governors. The Broadstone community band is made up of pupils and young adults who have attended the school. Twice a year the band plays alongside the Todmorden brass band in the school hall. Over the years children have enjoyed success in many sporting events and have competed at borough and district level. All parents are automatically members of the Friends of Broadstone Association which was formed in 1989 with the aim of increasing home-school liaison, raising funds for the school, organising social occasions and providing an extra source of help for the school. 'The aim of the school is to produce a pupil who is positive, polite, confident and courteous'.
