Background:

Whitley School founded in 1875. It is situated in the picturesque village of Lower Whitley in the beautiful Cheshire countryside between the towns of Northwich and Warrington. The school comprises the original imposing black and white building, housing a large infant classroom, together with tasteful conversions and extensions over several years which now provide accommodation for reception, lower juniors, and upper juniors and a separate library area. Outside there is a playground and a playing field. The school maintains a high standard of academic achievement - all eligible pupils reached level 4 or above in the 1999 National Tests. Extra curricular activities are also provided throughout the year, including art club, PE club, and cycling proficiency. The school takes part in various sports activities and competitions. There is an after school French club, and institutional tuition is offered to junior children. Regular trips are arranged throughout the year, and all but the youngest children take part in residential visits. Whitley Village School is in the best tradition of the English village school and is one of the focal points of the local community. Pupils of the school organise fund-raising events for a number of national charities and are active in helping to raise funds and providing entertainment for local groups.
