Background:
Founded as a boys' grammar school in 1526, the school is one of the England's oldest schools and is an important part of Warrington's heritage. More recently, the school has developed as a successful 11-16 mixed comprehensive school and in September 2002 it became Warrington's first voluntary aided Church of England secondary school. The school runs an extensive extra-curricular programme. Drama, music and art are also very popular and computer facilities are heavily used. A comprehensive programme of sports activities is organised after-school. There are representative teams in football, rugby, netball, rounders and athletics, as well as club provision for tennis, basketball, dance etc. As well as taking part in sporting fixtures against other schools and day visits out of school to complete fieldwork or investigations, pupils can take part in a wide variety of residential opportunities. The school's ethos is based upon Christian beliefs, values and practices.
