Background:

Pownall Green was originally founded in 1877. The present school was built in 1965 and substantially refurbished in 2004 with a new library and state of the art computer suite. The school, one of the first to be awarded Beacon Status, stands in spacious grounds with playing fields, conservation areas and play areas designed to stimulate children's imagine and creativity. The school is a learning community offering a broad inclusive, rich curriculum where children are encouraged to think creatively, critically and logically. There is a strong tradition of high achievement in English, mathematics and science and in the foundation subjects. The school enjoys an excellent reputation with high achievement in sport, music, art and drama in a particularly creative learning environment. Extra curriculum activities include pent athlete, football, cricket, athletics, and computer, and drama, fun with food, music, and High Five Clubs. Recent sporting successes include winning the two kwik cricket tournaments, the local/district hard ball cricket tournament, athletics and tennis tournaments. Pownall Green takes an active part in the local community and supports a charity each year. The school has recently carried out research into motivation for learning funded by The National College for School Leadership's Within School Variation Project. The school'strongly promotes a healthy lifestyle. There is a very successful home and school partnership and a thriving P.P.A. and a breakfast and after school care club. Powell Green is a learning community. It is a happy, vibrant and very creative school with high standards of achievement and behaviour where children and staff enjoy learning within a culture of mutual trust and support.
