Background:

Woolston is situated in a residential suburb of Warrington. It was built in 1972 and has a semi-open plan design. It is surrounded by a large grassed area and has two hard surface playgrounds. School grounds are currently being developed to provide a mini-woodland area, a designated play area for reception children and play equipment for other children. The school is part of Liverpool diocese and follows the locally agreed syllabus for RE. In addition the school aims to provide a wide variety of experiences based on a sound modern approach. The school has extra-curricular clubs including a homework club, football and netball clubs, country dancing, cross-country running and recorder club. There is also a choir, which takes part in a Christmas carol concert and the Warrington Music Festival. The relationships between the school, its parents and the local community are very good, and much valued. There are strong links with the local community and the school is a focal point for the local area. This promotes pupils sense of local identity. A number of local groups use the hall. There are strong links with the local church and the vicar is a regular visitor. There are good links with the secondary school with regular liaison meetings and arranged visits. Secondary school teachers for science, maths, English, ICT and technology regularly teach primary pupils. Pupils have the opportunity to experience aspects of life further afield by residential trips, outings and visits. The school also encourages pupils to raise funds for local and national charities. It is the school's desire that the spirit of love, which emanates from its faith, will underpin all areas of the curriculum.
