Background:

Voluntary-aided Catholic primary school, near centre of Stalybridge, a former cotton town at the foot of the Pennines. The school'stands in a quiet, pleasant area, opposite the church and next to a park. The present school was opened in October 1972; four infant classes and four junior classes; also a nursery unit, which stands opposite the main school, on the far side of the playground. 'Rich and vibrant curriculum', supported by specialist music, dance, games, and arts teachers. The school provides a number of extra curricular activities, which include badminton, cross-country running, choral speaking, football, netball, choir and tuition in a variety of musical instruments. The school organises a number of educational visits throughout the year to support the learning in the classroom, as well as encouraging and welcoming people into school. After-school care involves children being collected and take to an off-site care club. Over-subscribed, with 1.3 applications per place.
