Background:
One of the newest Roman Catholic High Schools in the United Kingdom, St James's purpose-built, single-storey buildings stand in 'delightful' surroundings south of Cheadle Hulme. Its relatively small size is a factor perceived as 'one of its strengths', and it is over-subscribed, with 160 applications for 151 places. The 'first-class' facilities on the site include a 'fine' sports hall. 'Notable' sporting success is balanced by 'thriving' art, music and drama departments. Exhibitions and performances are regularly put on by pupils. There is also a programme of visits, trips and educational excursions and holidays, which includes a skiing trip as well as German and Italian exchanges. 'St James' Roman Catholic High School is involved in the pursuit of excellence in a Christian community in which we aim to create a happy, hard-working and successful atmosphere in which all members are supported in developing their abilities to the fullest possible extent'.
