Background:

The school is situated on the Duke of Westminster's Eaton Estate in the village of Saighton, a few miles south of Chester. The area is predominantly rural and consists mainly of small villages and outlying farms. The school building was built in 1867, but since then there have been 'many' alterations in the form of additional classrooms. Today, it consists of four classrooms and a hall, which serves as a meeting place for school assemblies and an area for dance, physical education, and drama. There is also a kitchen, an office and a staff room. The school occasionally uses the sports Hall of Abbey Gate College for physical education. Saighton offers a tarmac playground and a playing field for sports and recreation and the school plans to add a conservation area, new classroom, and library and technology area. A range of extra-curricular activities is maintained, including German, football, netball, and a drama and movement club for Key Stage 1 pupils. There are also opportunities to learn violin and guitar. Pupils undertake charity fundraising events such as the harvest appeal, European Children's Trust events, and non-uniform days for various charities and a shoebox appeal at Christmas. The aim of the school's curriculum is to 'help children think for them, to exercise choice, to make reasoned judgements and to be positively discerning'. The school is committed to providing an education that 'encourages each child to attain high standards and to develop as an individual within a Christian community'. Saighton Church of England Primary School aims to provide grounding in the Anglican Faith but in such a way as to develop a sympathetic understanding of the Christian faith without exerting pressure to believe.
