Background:
Prestbury Church of England Primary School has a long history, which dates from 1720, its Christian foundation, its high reputation and its well-disciplined and friendly environment. It is situated on a beautiful site alongside the River Bollin, near the centre of the historic village of Prestbury. The school was redesigned and completely refurbished in 1991, creating a calm, well-disciplined environment, with easy access to excellent resources and equipment. Until 1997 the school had seven teaching areas, a mobile classroom, a specialist music room, a large hall equipped with structural apparatus and a separate nursery unit. It also has excellent facilities for the children which include a large playing field and other grassed areas, three playgrounds, one with a netball court, two adventure play areas, an orienteering course and a self contained nursery play area. The school believes in the importance and value of organised but additional activities. The range offered to the children varies according to individual members of the staff, the weather and demands from the local community. Clubs running at this present time are football, netball, badminton, table tennis, chess, art, string group, French, badminton, orchestra, choir, cross country, and recorders.A distinctive feature of the school is the close links with the community it serve. Examples of this include frequently taking part in church and civic events, entertaining the senior citizens at the Harvest and Christmas celebrations, regular visits by the musicians to the local nursing homes and support of local and national charities. The school holds NAACE mark for ICT; Basic Skills Quality Mark (2004); Investor in People status (2000); DfES achievement award (2002, 2003); Training School Status and ICT Mark (2006). The school aims to provide a firm Christian foundation for the education of children, contributing to their mental, physical and spiritual development and helping them to realise their full potential.
