Background:
The school'serves seven parishes, each of which had primary schools that were amalgamated in 1969. Surrounded by Cheshire's 'finest farm land' and with the country mansions of Capesthrone and Gawsworth Halls close by, the catchment area covers over 100 square miles. The school has 'spacious' grounds with its own peace garden, adventure playground, seating areas and wild gardens. An all-weather cricket pitch, sand play area and games equipment are available at lunch and playtimes, in addition to extra-curricular activities at lunch time and after school, when children can take part in recorder playing, gardening, cross-country, netball, football, cricket and athletics. There is a 'very active' Parent-Teacher Association, and children take harvest gifts to the old and needy in the community and do a 'large amount' of charity fund-raising. Sporting achievements include the winning of the Congleton and District cricket and netball tournaments in 1998-1999. There is a 'full programme' of class visitis and residential visits are organised to Wales for Year 5 and the Isle of Man for Year 6.
