Background:
St Alban's is a voluntary aided Catholic primary school for boys and girls aged four to 11 years. The school was founded in the 19th century, but the current building is only 30 years old. It is a modern airy building with good facilities including an attractive, well-resourced library area, a networked computer suite and seven and a half acres of land. There is a preparatory school on site where two to four year olds learn part-time. The school has excellent sporting and musical reputations, and most instruments are taught on a peripatetic/club basis. French is also offered at lunchtime. Other extra-curricular clubs and activities include football, netball, cross-country running, cricket and rounders. Fundraising takes place twice a year to support CAFOD (Catholic Association for Overseas Development). The school is very proud of its links with St Albans Parish Church and pupils sing carols at Christmas time for the sick and elderly. The school was also awarded Investor in People status. The school aims to foster a loving community based upon the message of the Gospel enabling all members to grow in love, trust and respect for one another.
