Background:

The school is situated on the western outskirts of Stockport and draws the majority of its pupils from the immediate area. The school participates in the Top Sport programme which introduces children to hockey, tennis, cricket, football, netball, both in school time and after school, and there are school teams for football, netball, rounders and swimming. Swimming is available for children in Years 3 and 4. Other extra-curricular activities include rounders, athletics, gymnastics, choral work, recorder, guitar, art, drama, computers, science, chess, badminton and safe cycling. A Fit Kids Club is organised on the school's behalf by Leisure Services for children in Years 3 and 4, and Hazlewood Nursery organises a Schools Out Club for primary pupils during term time. Visits to local places of interest in Manchester, Cheshire or Stockport, are an important componenet of the curriculum. Children in Year 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to take part in a residential visit. A variety of other experiences are brought into school such as puppets, live theatre, poets, authors and musicians. A support group, the Friends of Cheadle Heath, helps raise extra funds for the school. The school also tries to make children aware of those less fortunate and focuses attention on a different charity each year by arranging visiting speakers. At harvest time it supports the Wellspring project.
