Background:

Sale Grammar School is situated in the south Manchester commuter belt. The school building has had many new developments, including an English block in 2002, library extension in 2003, and an arts building in 2004. Some sixth-form teaching takes place on an additional site; 10 science laboratories, interactive language laboratory with satellite communications, video-conferencing facilities, gymnasium and sports hall. There are ICT facilities throughout. There are purpose-built blocks for technology, art and design. The school attaches great importance to community links and raises a lot of money for charity. There is an orchestra, wind band, many ensembles and choir. Breakfast facilities. Specialist visual arts college status from September 2003; reputation for quality of community arts programme.
