Background:

Founded in 1966, the school is set in a pleasant, suburban area surrounded by green belt. The market town of Altrincham is within easy reach of the cultural benefits of Manchester. Additional buildings have ensured that specialist classrooms are available for all subjects, and a building programme is planned to provide more extensive sports accommodation. The school has a 'strong creative base' and pupils regularly win local and national awards. The school's status as a Specialist College for the visual arts has enabled it to continue raising its academic standards not only in creative areas, but across all areas of the curriculum. Children have the opportunity to join the theatre club, choir, band, orchestra and the drama club. Pupils in all years are given the opportunity to take part in residential visits, where they can try their hand at outdoor pursuits, including canoeing, sailing, mountain biking, skiing, camping etc. In 2004 a musical version of 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' was produced. Throughout the year the school raises money for charities and donates specific goods as is possible when requested by charitable organisations. Residential activities take place both in this country and abroad. Pupils are invited to take part in a whole range of outdoor pursuits in such places as the Lake District and the Ardeche. The school 'state of the art' fitness suite is a superb resource widely used by years 10 and 11 pupils to promote the values of health and exercise. The school aims to provide a caring secure environment in which each pupil will receive a quality education.
