Background:
Waverton Community Primary School was built in the mid-1960s. The school offers extensive grounds including an ample playing field and a playground, both of which have been developed to enhance the school's learning environment. Other facilities include a brand new library. The school is close to the Shropshire Union Canal and a thriving natural pond, which are sometimes used under supervision as a stimulus for work. Most pupils come from the village of Waverton and its surrounding area, which comprises residential housing and farmland. Extra-curricular activities currently include soccer, netball, rounders, cricket and crafts. Educational visits are organised to art galleries, museums, and other places of interest. The school also offers an out of hour's French club. Pupils take part in soccer, netball, rounders and cricket matches against other schools, in addition to an inter-school athletics competition. The school aims to foster a positive attitude to learning, using children's first-hand experiences, so that they become enquiring and independent learners.
