Background:

Middlewich County High opened in 1979 as a mixed comprehensive school, but the school buildings date from 1906 with extensions added in 1944 and 1975. It serves pupils from Middlewich and the neighbouring towns and villages wide catchment area and is mildly over-subscribed each year. The programme for senior pupils is based upon the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum at Key Stage 4. All pupils study citizenship, English (always language and often literature), mathematics, science (double award), information technology, religious education and physical educal education plus two other option subjects. The school has 'good' facilities on campus, including joint use sports hall and floodlit pitches. The school has 'strong' community links with the small market town. The ethos of the school is described by the headteacher as 'caring, friendly and paternal. Middlewich High School intends that all pupils, irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, capability, physical impairment, or religious belief should develop a sense of self respect and the capacity to live as independent, self motivated adults.
