Background:
This greatly over-subscribed school first opened in 1833 as Hartford National CE School, but was replaced by a modern building in 1968 and renamed Hartford County Primary. It is 'very pleasantly' situated; the front is fringed with 'attractive' borders and, to the rear, there are 'extensive' playing fields and a playground. Extra-curricular activities include choir, orchestra, keyboard, woodwind ensemble, recorders, book-making, science, country dancing, dance, short tennis, football, netball and chess. The school achieved an Investors in People award in March 1997, it is also a pioneer school in establishing an out of school care scheme in 1991 and a private nursery on the school grounds. Hartford County is involved in charity fund raising and has one major event each year.
