Background:
Founded in 1895, the school's accommodation now consists of the original Victorian hall with 1980's additions and a new classroom and ICT suite added in 1999. An after-school club is open until 6pm and the wide range of activities includes lacrosse, football, tennis, netball, rounders, choir and orchestra, while French and computer clubs are held at lunchtime. Tuition is available in violin, brass, woodwind, guitar and recorder. The school won the area lacrosse championship in 2001 and was runner-up in the football championship. The small number of children with special educational needs (SEN) have access to a classroom assistant. The over-subscribed school has close links with St Mary's church. Pupils raise 'a great deal' for charities, most recently for the Indian Earthquake Appeal, Childline, Comic Relief and a local special school. St Mary's Primary recently became a Beacon school.
