Background:

Situated on the outskirts of Sandbach, the school was founded in 1866 and is still accommodated in traditional classrooms. Facilities include a large playing field and a large and mature nature area. The school aims to 'provide a curriculum within a Christian setting in which children can grow in knowledge and understanding, and can acquire skills, attitudes and values'. It offers a 'broad and balanced' curriculum based on the core subjects of the national curriculum. St John's is especially proud of the 'high standards' it has achieved in music, especially in instrumental music. It has twice been invited to perform at the Royal Festival Hall, and its jazz band has been Granada Champions. Pupils at the school have performed on television with Roy Castle and have also played with Humphrey Lyttleton and his jazz band. The school also performs locally to support national and local charities. Other extra-curricular activities include football, and in 1999 the school team were area area champions in the Predator Football Cup and represented the area in the regional finals. St John's is a community school and accepts pupils from a wide area. It has a 'strong caring ethos, strong parental links and welcomes pupils from other faiths'.
