Background:

The school opened in 1939 and many of the parents and local residents attended Park Road themselves, creating a great deal of interest in the school from the local community. The school is a horse-shoe shaped building housing seven classrooms, the main hall, administration block, dining hall and site kitchen. The nursery is in a linked building close to the infant department. There is a hard surfaced playground and a field area. The building has undergone 'extensive' refurbishment and modernisation over the last few years, creating a 'pleasant working environment for the pupils'. At Park Road, the staffs are 'committed to the development of the whole person' and therefore aim to provide a 'broad, well balanced curriculum through which all pupils realise their full potential and develop individual talents, interests and skills'. The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities. There is a 'strong' home-school association, which works hard for the benefit of the school, including social and fund raising events. The school was the first in the area to be awarded a Quality Mark for ICT and has received two Basic Skills Quality Marks. The schools mission statement is working in partnership with parents to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of all its pupils. The school aims to foster personal and academic development in a caring, secure, challenging environment so that each individual can achieve his and her full potential.
